PTs and PTAs
Leading Together, Learning Together
Our Leadership Academy is one of a kind within the profession
Started over ten years ago, the RM Barney Poole Leadership Academy is the only chapter-based program for developing and advancing leadership skills.
Our comprehensive approach
We embrace a “lead where you’re at” mentality. Whether you are just beginning your leadership journey or if you are looking for new and innovative ideas for engaging with mentees and young leaders, the Academy will stimulate your mind and fill your cup.
Our Origin Story
Started in 2012 by PTAG President Dr. RM Barney Poole, PT, DPT, ATC, FAPTA, the Leadership Academy offers skills for PTs, PTAs, and students to grow personally and professionally. During this multi-level program, participants will understand how change and innovation require leadership.
Developing an effective leadership style is important even if you are not in a formal leadership role - and developing leadership skills will help you become more influential in practice.
Leadership styles vary from person to person and some leadership styles are more effective than others. What kind of leader are you? Do you know your preferred leadership style?
Through the Leadership Academy Program, you'll start to discover how you lead and will be
provided with ideas on how to build your own leadership capacity. Emphasis will be on developing an effective personal leadership style as well as understanding how you can lead as a member of a group. Additionally, you'll be exposed to new ways of thinking and new approaches to innovation and change that you can apply to many professional situations in physical therapist practice.
Originally a mid-Summer program, the meeting is now part of ImPacT, the APTA Georgia annual conference.
In 2014, the Academy was renamed the RM Barney Poole Leadership Academy, in honor of Dr. Poole's work in creating this unique leadership opportunity.
